We are making a difference by teaming up to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.

At the event, our team will camp out overnight and take turns walking around the track to raise money and awareness to help the American Cancer Society create a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

Saving lives from cancer starts one team, one participant, and one dollar at a time. Our team is doing our part to make sure that cancer never steals another year of anyone’s life.

Please join our team or make a donation. The impact we can make together is much greater than what any of us could do alone!

This team is run by Youth Ministry for St Andrew’s but you don’t have to be a teen to join.

that we will have a Second Collection for assistance to Japan, following the devastating earthquake and tsunami?   Bishop Kicanas is the Chairman of Catholic Relief Services and it will be through CRS that we will reach out to the Japanese people, still recovering from the catastrophic events which overcame them last week. Less than 2% of the population of Japan is Christian and so our relief efforts will be a powerful witness to the Good News and the care for others which the Good News insists is the sign of our love for God! Because of Bishop Kicanas’ leadership position, we are being kept well-informed and well-directed in our efforts on behalf of the people of Japan. A number of our parishioners have friends and relatives living in Japan – ours is truly a ‘global community’ – and we have been hearing (and viewing) their stories. The devastation is truly horrifying and the sense of loss and social displacement is almost tangible.
Pope John Paul II frequently used the word “solidarity” in his theology of mission and evangelization, and this is truly a time for “solidarity” with the people of Japan.
Pope Benedict XVI describes “consolation” as the willingness to come and put our hearts next to someone’s heart, who feels themselves isolated and alone — “solo”. Certainly, anything that we can do to reach out to the people of Japan at this time would be a timely “consolation”.
Special envelopes are available in the pews and you can make your donation at any time over the next few weeks – and may our Lord reward your kindness and strengthen our witness together to the people of Japan! You can also visit the Catholic Relief Services website to make your contribution on line!
